Mill Creek Corporate Center - Shovel Ready

In August, work started on the Mill Creek Corporate Center. The project entails the relocation of 600,000 cubic yards of fill over the southwest area of the Center. The completion of the fill project will allow Mill Creek to be ready for development by business and industries that wish to locate there. Kerr Contractors, of Woodburn, won the $1.25 million contract to raise the elevation of roughly 100 acres and to relocate an existing irrigation ditch. As Mill Creek Corporate Center develops, the relocated ditch will be landscaped to act as an attractive physical feature. Estimates place the fill project as a 60-75 day completion timeframe. Crews will be working six days a week and ten hours a day.

The Mill Creek Corporate Center is south of Highway 22 and east of Kuebler Boulevard. In 2001, the Oregon Legislature directed the State to sell the property, which has 515 acres of developable land. The State of Oregon and the City of Salem have worked together to plan the property’s development and to stimulate economic development in Salem. It is estimated that creating a Class-A business park on the 515 acres of developable land at Mill Creek will take 20-30 years.

New Power Substation Activated in Monmouth

November 22, 2009 (Look for complete story in Winter09 Enterprise)

Monmouth Mayor John Oberst did the honors twice on Friday, November 20th, first with a ribbon cutting and then by throwing the switch to activate Monmouth Power & Light's new South Substation on S Ecols Street. Monmouth Public Works Director Dave Wildman said the substation will triple the city's electrical power output.

The project has been ongoing since 2001, initiated after Monmouth endured a couple of
citywide power outages the previous year, both lasting hours. Wildman said the 2000 outages
coupled with a realistic assessment of the half-century-old substation serving the city prompted
the substation project. The station reduces the Monmouth Power & Light's annual expenses by about $160,000, primarily by decreasing fees paid to PGE. Those savings will go toward paying off the $3.7 million project. (Source: Statesman Journal)
