James W. Doerfler, C.P.A. EARNS DESIGNATION

James W. Doerfler of Fischer, Hayes & Associates, P.C. has successfully completed the certification process with the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts (NACVA) to earn his designation of certified valuation analyst (CVA).

Requirements to earn the certified valuation analyst designation include being a licensed certified public accountant, completing NACVA’s five-day training program, and successfully completing the association’s comprehensive examination.

To maintain his certification as a certified valuation analyst, Jim will be required to periodically obtain continuing professional education in areas related to business valuation and/or litigation support and participate in programs sponsored by NACVA that promote quality and adherence to industry standards.

Certified valuation analysts provide business valuation and litigation support services, mostly on behalf of attorneys. They are uniquely qualified by virtue of the knowledge they’ve gained earning their CPA and CVA designations, their experience in tax, auditing, accounting for small businesses, and financial analysis, as well as the excellent background they’ve developed in dealing with the complexities involved in providing business valuation and litigation support services.

Business valuations are most commonly required when an attorney is involved in engagements such as adequacy of life insurance, bankruptcy and foreclosures, buy/sell agreements, charitable contributions, eminent domain, employee stock ownership plans, estate and gift taxes, initial public offerings, liquidation or reorganization, mergers or acquisitions, the sale of a business, split-ups or spin-offs, and succession planning. Litigation support needs for valuations include business disruption, divorce, partner disputes/dissenting shareholder situations, and wrongful death.

The National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts is a global, professional association that supports the business valuation and litigation consulting disciplines within the CPA and legal communities. Along with its training and certification programs, NACVA offers a range of support services, marketing tools, software programs, reference materials and customized databases to enhance the professional capabilities and capacities of its members.
