MARQUIS SPAS® CELEBRATES DECADE-LONG SPONSORSHIP WITH THE MAKE-A-WISH FOUNDATION® OF AMERICA
Date: 02/09/2010
Independence, Ore This month marks the 10th anniversary of the sponsorship between portable hot tubs manufacturer Marquis Spas® and the Make-A-Wish Foundation of America. The sponsorship has helped close to 400 children with life-threatening medical conditions and generated more than $2.4 million in spa donations and discounts for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
“The Make-A-Wish Foundation has a special place in our hearts here at Marquis Spas,” said John Schrenk, president of Marquis Spas. “It feels great to celebrate such a large milestone and to know we’ve been able to make a difference in so many lives.”
“We are truly thankful for the support that Marquis Spas has provided to the Make-A-Wish Foundation and our wish kids during the past 10 years,” said David Williams, Make-A-Wish Foundation of America president and chief executive officer. “Marquis Spas and its dealers across the country took one opportunity to grant a girl’s wish and have turned it into an enduring commitment that brings countless joy to wish kids and their families.”
Marquis Spas serves as the preferred provider for Make-A-Wish Foundation’s hot tub wishes. The spa manufacturer became involved with the Make-A-Wish Foundation in February 2000, when the company helped grant the wish of then 17-year-old Andrea, from Banks, Ore. Andrea received a spa and gazebo from Marquis.
The powerful experience of helping grant Andrea's wish inspired Marquis Spas to do more for children with life-threatening medical conditions by becoming a national supporter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Marquis created the “In the Spirit of a Wish” campaign a program that has now generated a value of more than $2.4 million in spa donations and discounts for the Foundation.
“Granting Andrea’s wish really hit home with us,” said Schrenk. “We just knew we had to do more. It’s amazing to think we’ve gone from something that was going to be a one-time deal to celebrating a 10-year sponsorship. We’ve gone from one wish to almost 400. That’s wonderful.”
Today Andrea is 27 and planning to get married in June. She became officially cancer-free in 2005 but still uses her Marquis spa on a regular basis. You can read more about Andrea on the Make-A-Wish Foundation’s Web site at http://www.wish.org/stories/where_are_they_now/andrea_update__1.
Marquis dealers from all over the United States are involved in the wish-granting process. They help deliver and set up the hot tubs and provide support for the local chapters and the wish children and their families.
“We could not have done all these wishes without extensive help from our great network of dealers,” said Schrenk. “It is not unheard of for them to drive five to six hours one way to deliver a hot tub to a wish child. They go above and beyond, and their support has been invaluable. This is a total team effort, and we all support the Make-A-Wish Foundation’s cause. “
