FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Meridian mixed use project in Salem was one of two projects to receive an Award of
Honor
for excellence in the use of masonry and/or ceramic tile at the Hammurabi Awards
put on by the Masonry & Ceramic Tile Institute of Oregon on February 18, 2010 at the
Governor Hotel in Portland.

The award honors the architect, Arbuckle Costic Architects, the Owner, MissCom, LLC,
contractor, John Hyland Construction, structural engineer, Associated Consultants, and key
subcontractors, Davidson’s Masonry, Rose City Marble & Tile, Mutual Materials,
Willamette Graystone, and Dal-Tile. The project was photographed by EmeraldLight.com.
The Meridian is a mixed-use project located on the south edge of downtown
Salem, Oregon.

In keeping with the historic brick facade buildings of downtown, brick
construction was the natural choice for the bulk of the building’s exterior. Additionally,
brick veneer’s tried and true water management capabilities necessitated its use in this
condominium project. Compatibility with the brick veneer led to the selection of calciumsilicate
stone masonry (CSM) for the base of the building. The CSM is installed in veneer
fashion with water management capabilities identical to the brick veneer.

The Jury’s comments were “Great use of a combination of brick stone and wood, giving
each their respective place in a successful design solution and execution. Interesting curved
masonry walls displaying to the world an exciting façade. Great color balance and
rendition.”
