OKTOBERFEST Grants $105,250.00 to Many Area Organizations Benefit

Mount Angel - John Gooley, Oktoberfest President announced the distribution of $105,250.00 to be shared by 48 worthy non-profit organizations in Mount Angel and surrounding communities as a result of this year’s highly successful Oktoberfest. This figure does not include $ 637,742.23 earned by the non-profit community groups that operated 47 food booths at the four-day event.
 
The Mount Angel Community Foundation will receive $50,000.00. Jim Hall, treasurer of the foundation explained the money would be used to help build a new Mount Angel Community Center. The proposed building will serve the needs of local non-profits, civic groups, churches, schools and community members to host events and activities, including fundraisers, classes, receptions and more. It will serve as the designated emergency shelter in the case of natural disaster. And, for four days in September it will host a portion of the renowned annual Oktoberfest.
 
St. Joseph Shelter, Mount Angel Community Chest, Mount Angel Senior Center, Northwest Senior & Disability Services for Mount Angel, Silverton Together, Silverton Area Community Aid, Silverton Women’s Zenith Club and other organizations that help the needy split $5,050.00. Area schools, scouting and other youth activities will receive $16,750.00.

Silverton Hospital, Providence Benedictine Nursing Center, Mount Angel Developmental Program will share $4,500.00.
 
St. Mary Parish in Mount Angel, the Benedictine Sisters, Missionaries of the Holy Spirit, Mount Angel Abbey, KBVM Catholic Broadcasting and the Festival Chorale Oregon will share $9,100.00.
 
Mount Angel Volunteer Firefighters Association, Mount Angel Chamber of Commerce, Marion County Search and Rescue, American Legion Post #89, Marion County Search Dogs, Oregon Mounted Posse and other service groups will divide $19,850.00 for the continuance of their good works.
 
Mount Angel Oktoberfest is one of Oregon’s favorite family events. It is full of the warmth and fun of a community effort unparalleled in the Northwest. The many people who visit this small Willamette Valley community for its fall festival find an unending buffet of fun, music and great food. Oktoberfest is the most important event of the year for the church, school and service groups involved. Many generate most of their annual funds over the long weekend.
