GREEN THUMBS COME IN SMALL SIZES, TOO
THE OREGON GARDEN LAUNCHES “JUNIOR GARDENERS’ CLUB” INCLUDING KIDS WORKSHOPS AND MEMBERSHIP PERKS
Silverton, OR Hoping to plant a passion for gardening in children, The Oregon Garden is launching a “Junior Gardeners’ Club” complete with Saturday workshops, year-round garden admission for two, and discounts at The Oregon Garden café and gift shop.
“Planting Pumpkins,” “Water Helps us Grow,” “Bees and the Buzz about Gardens,” and “Say Cheese: Photography and Art in the Garden” are just some of the workshop topics featured on one Saturday per month May through December. Workshops take place at 10 a.m. in the Children’s Garden and last approximately one hour. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
“This is a hands-on opportunity for kids to learn about gardening, the outdoors, health and fitness, arts and crafts, community awareness and more,” said April Purdy, manager of The Oregon Garden. “We hope that it will inspire lifelong interest and participation in gardening.”
JUNIOR GARDENERS’ CLUB DETAILS:
- The club is designed for children ages five to 10 years old
- Club participants become official members of The Oregon Garden
- The annual $50 membership fee includes: Admission to The Oregon Garden for the child member and one adult guest; admission to regular Junior Gardeners’ Club activities (11 per year); an official Junior Gardeners’ Club personalized membership card; and a 10 percent discount in the Garden Gift Shop and Café.
- A Junior Gardeners’ Club t-shirt is also available to club members for an additional $10.
- Membership is valid for 12 months from the month in which you join
- Adults who already possess Oregon Garden memberships may bring their children to the club activities free of charge.
- Those who do not wish to become members are invited to pay a “drop-in rate” at the door: $15 for ages seven and younger (includes one adult); and $23 for ages eight and older (includes one adult).

- June 12, “Growing Up Big & Strong” (health and fitness)
- July 10, “Water Helps Us Grow” (the importance of clean water)
- August 14, “Bees and the Buzz about Gardens”
- September 11, “Say Cheese! Photography and Art in The Garden”
- October 9, “Pumpkin Harvest”
- November 13, “The Giving Tree” (poetry and food drive)
- December 11, “All Aboard! The Polar Express (book reading and movie)

The Oregon Garden is an 80-acre botanical sanctuary that showcases the natural wonders of the Pacific Northwest with more than 20 individual themed gardens and related attractions.
