FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Salem Construction Manager wins 2009 Federal Energy and Water Management Award & LEED Certified Platinum Gene Doll of Salem, Oregon was honored as leading a design-build team recognized at the 2009 Federal Energy and Water Management Awards in Washington D.C. The award was presented by the Department of Energy recognizing the Mt.Lassen Visitors Center built in Mineral, California for the National Parks Service. The new visitor center uses a whole building, sustainable design approach that includes a high efficiency 10-ton ground source heating and cooling system; a 30 kW photovoltaic system; automated daylight controls; super insulation; and incandescent-free lighting throughout. It conserves water with dual flush toilets, waterless urinals, and low-flow fixtures, while native plants are used for landscaping to avoid the need for irrigation. The building achieved a LEED Platinum certification and is the first year-round LEED Platinum building in the National Park System, as well as the first Platinum Federal building in the State of California. Mr. Doll is a project manager with Contractor T.Gerding Construction who recently completed another non-certified LEED silver project for the NPS at the Redwoods National Park.
